2006: After a rather large misunderstanding between myself and the UK immigration, I lost my UK residency.
I moved to the closest port, Paris, but with limited French I was daunted by the prospect of getting a job or building anything like we'd built with the loveGods. I was near breaking point when one of my favourite humans, Mamma Darcy, and her husband Peter invited me to stay in Waxhaw, North Carolina.
They welcomed me with wide arm and smiles and expected me to convalesce. As for yours truly, I couldn't fathom the concept of "chillin" so I booked myself weekly shows at a little venue up the road, the Crossroads Cafe. I landed the gig when a very kind 17 year old Zac Robins let me steal his mic for a few songs during one of his shows.

Anyway, it worked out well: they asked which day I wanted, I said Fridays and that was that.

I don"t remember exactly how the session came about, only that it was a hot August Monday and that Zac was keen to try out some new recording equipment. I was keen to record the song I had written the day before the session, appropriately titled, SONG I JUST WROTE, so we hit it off marvellously.

The result was this EP which contains an acoustic version of STAND as well as the first ever recordings of SONG I JUST WROTE and SCARY CAROL.

It's one of my most loved sessions. Super easy - most songs were one take. It was a stifling afternoon so we left the doors wide open and I am pretty sure you can hear the Carolina Songbirds in the distance. xx
